Japanese screen, fuyu - winter

One of the four Japanese screens of my "Four seasons through the Golden Pavilion" Here is Fuyu (winter).

Seasons are more than words. A season give us many feelings. Each season depicts a weather, a time, our sensations. Also depicts how Time flows.

As already did many famous artists, like Monet and Hokusai, I've seen a place where landscape changes depending the season. I've chosen the Kinkaju-ji or Golden Pavilion, one of the most famous temples of Japan. After hours of researching, analyzing Japanese vegetation, weather and different combinations, finally i've divided the painting into three big parts.

The pine tree: at center, very detailed pine that governs, with his branches, all the screen.

The background: a deep forest, a lake and a mountain. Three colours, many combinations.

The Golden Pavilion: although the building changes depending the season, it's the only part of the painting that has gold, because gold doesn't change, no matter where season are.

After hours of painting, the fuyu screen is here. This time I totally changed the style of the others, and I only wanted to use three colours: black (dark winter nights) white (the snow, which make new shapes around the landscape) and the eternal gold. Strong sensation (solitude, cold, white domination)
